HERBALIFE - INGREDIENTS

Both plant-based soy protein and whey protein from dairy milk have been shown to help build and maintain lean body mass. Although not as rapidly digested and absorbed by the body as whey protein, soy protein does help support lean muscle mass.

For many years, a score called Biological Value was used to measure the quality of protein. Whey generally scored much higher than soy because of its unique composition. However, current research shows a more appropriate measure called the Protein Digestibility Corrected Amino Acid Score (PDCAAS). Both soy and whey have a PDCAAS score of 1.0.

Products may vary from region to region. For specific product questions, please contact us.

Individuals can use the Herbalifeline® products without concern for mercury contamination. The fish oil used in Herbalifeline® capsules complies with all regulations concerning heavy metal contamination, including mercury. Raw materials from our fish oil suppliers are tested to be sure they conform with strict standards for mercury. Nearly all fish contain traces of mercury because mercury is a naturally-occurring element. However, our quality testing processes ensure that any amount present is within accepted regulatory limits.

Certain natural flavours and colours are not as stable as artificial flavours and colours. Therefore it is often necessary to use artificial flavours and colours to maintain the physical quality and stability of our products.

Our entire Herbalife24 line was formulated without the use of artificial colours, flavours or sweeteners. All the products are naturally sweetened for a mild, palatable taste.

Individual servings of some Herbalife® products contain slightly less caffeine than an average cup of coffee. One cup of coffee has approximately 85 mg to 100 mg of caffeine. Herbalife® products with caffeine include: Herbal Tea Concentrate with approximately 65 mg per serving; N-R-G Tea and tablets with approximately 65 mg per serving; and Liftoff® tablets, which has 75 mg per serving.

Although caffeine is generally safe for most healthy adults, consumers should be aware of the total caffeine intake in their diets (coffee, tea, soda, energy drinks, Herbalife® products, etc.). We recommend not exceeding 300 mg of caffeine per day. Consumers who are sensitive to caffeine should adjust their intake accordingly.

For caffeine content in specific products, please contact us form as products may vary from region to region.

Formula 1 contains soy protein. We use a high grade of soybean with a high nutrient content.

We use high quality soy protein in our products because of the many benefits, including:

- Keep you fuller for longer

- Sustain energy levels

- Build lean muscle mass as part of a fitness programme

We understand that there are consumers who prefer not to use non-nutritive sweeteners, but we are limited by the sweeteners that are approved for use. More than 100 studies have been conducted on sucralose. These studies have been evaluated over a 20-year period and clearly demonstrated its safety. It is the only non-nutritive sweetener that is made from sugar, and only a very small amount of sucralose is used in Herbalife® products.

Our Product Development team is exploring the use of stevia. However, we are confident in the safety of sweeteners currently being used. We will offer additional sweetening options as these ingredients are found to provide the same standard of quality that we continue to maintain with current formulations.

HERBALIFE - PRODUCT USAGE

Herbalife® products are not intended to be used in weight-loss programmes for children. We strongly believe that younger adolescents and children should be focused on eating healthy foods and incorporating more physical activity into their daily routine to accomplish healthy weight management.

Lacto-ovo-vegetarians can use most products but may choose to avoid the following (note that some products listed below are not sold in the UK):

Products with gelatin capsules: Triple Berry, Male Factor 1000® capsules

Fish/Krill oil products:Herbalifeline® capsules, Tri-Shield® capsules, Core Complex

Products with sodium choleate, which is animal derived:Activate Fiber Complex tablets, Thermo-Bond tablets

Products with bee pollen:Formula 2 Multivitamin Complex, Schizandra Plus

Vegans may want to avoid the same products indicated in the vegetarian list as well as certain snacks (note that some of the following products are not sold in the UK): Beverage Mix, Creamy Chicken Soup Mix, Protein Bars and Protein Bar Deluxe, Personalized Protein Powder and the Formula 1 flavours that indicate they contain milk/whey protein.

Mix two scoops (or one packet) of Formula 1 Nutritional Shake Mix with milk (skim, low fat or soy) or water. Blenders are the perfect way to mix your shake. You can also mix in fresh or frozen fruit for additional flavour and nutrients.

If you’re using Formula 1 Instant Shake Mix, just add water instead of milk.

Yes. Add fruit for additional nutrients and flavour combinations to your Formula 1 Nutritional Shake Mix. You can also add different Herbalife® products, like Protein Powder for additional benefits.

Your personal objectives and requirements must be considered, but generally, to lose weight, drink a shake twice daily, for breakfast and lunch, along with a healthy dinner and daily exercise for a healthy, active life.

You can replace one meal daily with a shake for weight management.

Yes. Formula 1 Nutritional Shake Mix can be made with water instead of milk, but only shakes mixed and used as directed on their labels deliver the full nutritional benefit of a meal replacement.

Make sure you are using the products correctly and as recommended on the label, while incorporating healthy dietary habits and exercise in your weight management program. There are many reasons why an individual may experience a "plateau" in his or her weight loss. Should you have trouble losing weight, seek the advice of a health professional to assess and monitor other potential factors that may be hindering your success.

HERBALIFE - QUALITY CONTROL

Herbalife® owns two manufacturing facilities, in Lake Forest, California, and Suzhou, China. In addition, we contract with manufacturers in the United States, Europe, South America and Asia. Our goal is to continue to expand company-owned manufacturing capabilities, while also partnering with select high-quality manufacturers.

Within the United States, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulates our conventional foods, dietary supplements, and cosmetics under the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, as amended. Herbalife® products contain ingredients either already recognized as safe or otherwise specifically permitted.

All Herbalife® products sold in the United States are labeled according to FDA regulations and must be manufactured in accordance with established quality standards. Vendors are periodically inspected and audited by Herbalife in accordance with the company’s written quality assurance procedures. All Herbalife® food and supplement products, as well as its facilities, are subject to FDA inspection and enforcement authority at all times.

Outside of the United States, we comply with and are regulated by the various ministries of health and food standards agencies in the additional countries where we do business.

Herbalife must submit notifications to the FDA about every dietary supplement product displaying structure/function claims. Herbalife must also report to the FDA all serious adverse events reported to be associated with its dietary supplements.

Articles have appeared in the peer-reviewed literature alleging an association between Herbalife products and liver disease. However, there have been numerous inconsistencies in the evaluations or criteria used to establish causality in the cases reportedly associated with our products. Herbalife has published numerous rebuttal articles to dismiss these inaccuracies and discrepancies. In fact, detailed inquiries by 25 governments resulted in no regulatory action after investigating our company and these reports.

Liver injury can stem from a number of potential causes or contributing factors which can include (but are not limited to) metabolic disorders, autoimmune diseases, viruses, alcoholism, and medication use. None of our products are sold or marketed for diagnosing, treating, curing or preventing disease anywhere in the world. Herbalife products are formulated for healthy individuals and are safe when consumed following the directions on the label. Consumers who have medical conditions should check with their personal health care provider to determine which products are most appropriate for them.

HERBALIFE - REGULATORY

No ingredients in our products are on the WADA (World Anti-Doping Association) banned substance list. However, we only conduct testing on the products in our Herbalife24 product line.

Each product in the Herbalife24 product line is tested for banned substances (anti-doping testing) by an independent third-party laboratory (BSCG.org) assuring athletes that what they put into their bodies is exactly what is listed on the label.

It is Herbalife's policy not to test its products on animals. However, Herbalife will maintain compliance with ongoing/changing industry regulations.

HERBALIFE - HEALTH & WELLNESS

If you are under a doctor's care, have been diagnosed with a condition or are taking prescribed medications, you should have a conversation with your healthcare professional before making any significant changes to your diet or lifestyle, including the use of dietary supplements or meal replacement products.

No. The glycemic index (GI) has not been determined for all Herbalife® products. However, Formula 1 is considered to have a low GI since the carbohydrate source is fructose. Fructose is categorized as a low GI sugar which, when combined with protein and fiber (such as in our Formula 1 shake), can also help provide a lower GI.

You can use some products. Many of the shakes contain milk ingredients, which are not lactose-free. If you are lactose intolerant, you should use products that indicate "lactose-free" or “free from dairy” on the label. Currently, the Formula 1 Free From, Raspberry and White Chocolate is “free from dairy” and other allergens.

No. Herbalife® products are not designed to be a high-protein diet. They are part of a balanced nutritional programme. We recommend 30 percent of your total daily calories come from protein. Our recommendation for protein is conservative and safe for healthy individuals.

No. Herbalife® products do not cure diseases, nor are they a substitute for medical treatment or medications. Yes. However, individuals under doctor's care or using prescribed medications should consult their personal physicians about dietary supplement use.

All nutritional supplementation during pregnancy should be discussed with your prenatal physician. Optimum nutrition during pregnancy is important to maintain your health and to minimize problems during pregnancy.

Although Herbalife® products are safe to be consumed by most adults, a few Herbalife® products bear a warning statement indicating they are not recommended for pregnant or lactating women.

New moms should give their body time to adjust to the various changes that occur during pregnancy and after delivery. A strict calorie-reduced diet is not recommended during breastfeeding, since breast milk production and quality can be affected by low calories. There is an increased need of about 300 to 500 calories while breastfeeding. With guidance from your doctor, moderate exercise may promote some weight and inch loss.

If you are lactating, you should not use any products, unless you are reviewed and cleared by your doctor.

Provide the answer to the question here.

Individuals with medical conditions are advised to consult their personal physician prior to beginning use of any product because it is likely that they have protein intake limitations as well as other dietary restrictions that require guidance.

It’s very easy to discuss the products with your doctor. Remove the Herbalife ingredient label from the product container and bring it to the doctor. HERBALIFE - PRODUCTS

Herbalife’s Research and Development (R&D) department combines the experience of our own product development specialists with a team of highly accomplished consulting scientists. We conduct product development, ingredient testing and development of the process for food commercialization at our Product and Science Center and Herbalife Innovation and Manufacturing (H.I.M.) facility in Los Angeles, California, with support from select ingredient suppliers and manufacturing partners.

Herbalife uses a stage-gate product development process to take new products from ideation to stable commercial manufacturing.  Research operations include: monitoring of scientific literature for product and ingredient advancements; formulation development with extensive use of prototyping; sensory and clinical testing and product testing to assess product efficacy, uniformity and stability.

In the course of product design and development, Herbalife researches the functionality and chemistry of botanical, vitamin, mineral and other food ingredients; techniques and forms for combining ingredients to provide an acceptable product experience for the consumer; process techniques for the successful, uniform and reliable conversion of ingredients into the desired finished product; and clinical studies of ingredient or product efficacy.

Herbalife® products include natural ingredients that may contain trace elements. Many natural and processed foods, including dairy products, chocolate and vegetables, as well as products made with natural ingredients, contain extremely small amounts of lead that by today’s highly sensitive analytical methods can be detected, but are insignificant in posing any risk to consumers. Our products fall within the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidelines for the amount of lead that consumers can safely ingest through their daily diet, and specific limits on lead content in the daily diet from all sources. Herbalife® products do not contain levels of lead that would require labeling under California Proposition 65 disclosure requirement. We also follow the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) limits for lead. In other parts of the world, our products are also in compliance with all local regulatory requirements governing lead limits in our products.

Today, many shoppers prefer the higher level of personalized care afforded by direct sales. The personalized approach gives consumers an opportunity to work closely with someone who gets to understand their specific needs. Herbalife has led the way for more than 30 years in direct sales network marketing. For information on direct selling, visit the website of the Direct Selling Association (www.dsa.org), of which Herbalife is a member.

Yes. Clinical studies are currently being conducted by Herbalife in conjunction with major universities to benchmark the benefits of various products. To date, four clinical studies have been completed.

Three clinical studies have been completed that show the effectiveness of Formula 1 protein shakes; also, one study was completed using Niteworks® dietary supplement.

The Formula 1 studies, conducted at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA*), University of Ulm, Germany, and Seoul University National Hospital, Korea, showed that using Formula 1 meal replacements twice a day as part of a calorie-controlled diet can lead to effective weight loss.

The studies in Germany and Korea were conducted by members of our Nutrition Advisory Board, Drs. Marion Flechtner-Mors and Belong Cho, respectively. The results of the UCLA* study were published in Nutrition Journal (August 2008); the Korea results appeared in The International Journal of Clinical Practice (February 2009); and the Ulm study was published in Diabetes/Metabolism Research and Reviews (June 2010).

In 2010, a clinical study of Niteworks® dietary supplement showed avid cyclists over the age of 50 experienced an improvement in their performance after taking the product for three weeks. The study was published in Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition.

We also support scientific advancements. Herbalife has generously donated funds to establish the Mark Hughes Cellular and Molecular Nutrition Laboratory and the Mark Hughes Human Performance Laboratory at the Center for Human Nutrition at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA)* to help foster breakthrough research in nutrition, natural products and botanicals and their effects on human health. The company also awarded a research grant to the National Center for Natural Products Research (NCNPR) at the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy. The grant allows NCNPR scientists to identify and study the biologically active chemicals found in botanicals, which may be used in the development of future dietary supplements and skin care products for Herbalife.
